10 Ways A Postpartum Doula Helps You Thrive

Have you considered hiring a Postpartum Doula but you weren’t sure if it would be needed? Let me assure you, not one parent that has hired me has regretted having the extra sleep or expert newborn education!

You may be wondering…So what does a Postpartum Doula do?

As a Postpartum Doula I can support you with:

  1. Education on newborn basic care such as swaddling, bathing, diapering and soothing tips
  2. Provide lactation support such as positioning, getting a good latch and helping baby wake up to eat well
  3. Be a safe place for you to share your birth story
  4. Provide education around healthy sleep habits for you and your newborn
  5. Help with baby laundry, washing bottles and pump parts and keeping the kitchen tidy
  6. Newborn education on sleep and hunger cues
  7. Troubleshooting and offering tips on reflux and gas pains
  8. Education for fussy babies and strategies that are easy for parents to do
  9. Education on infant wake windows and realistic sleep expectations during the day and at night
  10. Helping parents establish routines and adjust to life with a newborn so that they feel comfortable on their own

Having support early on in the postpartum period, such as the day you get home and a few weeks after, is so beneficial to your recovery and mental health as you adjust to bringing home a newborn.

The first few weeks at home with a newborn can be a big adjustment!

As a Postpartum Doula I can share sleep tips to promote healthy sleep habits for your newborn. This education gives you peace as a new parent so that you have the confidence to know when your newborn is tired or hungry. This will benefit you so you can meet their needs quickly without the overwhelm.

How a Postpartum Doula Can Help You Get Rest

A postpartum doula does more than just offer an extra set of hands—I provide knowledge, reassurance, and a plan to help your baby and family thrive. My superpower is educating parents on sleep. Sleep helps your body heal from the delivery and decreases possible mood disorders.

I believe that every new parent deserves the opportunity to receive expert newborn advice, support and encouragement to help them feel seen, heard and valued as a new parent. You don’t have to figure out the newborn period by yourself! You are not alone!

Here are some benefits to hiring a professional Postpartum Doula with sleep training experience…

  • A postpartum doula can help reduce postpartum mood disorders by offering emotional support to new moms
  • A postpartum doula can offer you science based education about your newborn so that you don’t feel overwhelmed
  • Doulas can help you feel prepared and ease your anxiety so that you can enjoy the newborn period
  • Doulas can provide education on newborn sleep shaping to maximize your night sleep as a new parent

The 4th trimester is a pivotal time in a parents life! There are so many changes! Having someone to turn to during this transition is a benefit to the whole family! Having a postpartum doula in person or virtually will decrease your anxiety, give you peace of mind and allow you to get more rest.

Postpartum Doula Services

I offer daytime or nighttime postpartum services. During the day I am available to come for a few hours (usually 2-4 hour blocks) during the day to help you with lactation support, newborn education, doing baby laundry, tidying up the kitchen, washing bottles or pump parts and being a listening ear.

During the night I offer 8-12 hour blocks of time. Hiring a doula for overnight care gives you a chance to rest and recover. You can sleep well knowing that I will be there to burp, change diapers and swaddle your newborn. This allows you to breastfeed and then go right back to bed even if your little one wants to stay awake. You can rest knowing that your little one is safe with an expert postpartum doula with over 15 years of experience.
